The Ingalls Family
The Ingalls family was one of the earliest in the country, coming only eight years after the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth, and have, as a whole, maintained an honorable place in the history of the country. The largest majority have been tillers of the soil, industrious, caring little for public office, but always willing to assume such duties when called upon by their fellow citizens. If there is one characteristic that is evident above another, it is the weak ties of relationship... When the children went out to found a home for themselves it was often never to return.
— Charles Burleigh, The Ingalls Family in America, 1903
